Philip Pullman Meets the Art Detective
The Lord of Dust, creator of daemons and spinner of the finest fairy tales, Sir Philip Pullman is one of the world’s greatest storytellers. Best known for his spellbinding trilogy ‘His Dark Materials’, which continues to appeal to adults and children across the globe, he created one of the most influential and widely loved series in modern fiction. In 2008, The Times named Pullman “one of the greatest British writers since 1945”. In a 2004 poll for the BBC, Pullman was named the 11th most influential person in British culture.
But Pullman is a lover of great art as well as great words, and he has been inspired by many artists from different periods. He also has an extraordinary art collection, with work spanning from Quentin Blake to Picasso, some of which he shares with the Art Detective in this series.
In this fascinating episode, he meets with Janina Ramirez to discuss storytelling through art and literature - and even lets her hold his very own golden compass.Duration: 40 Min
